A selenite tower - a standing pillar of translucent white satin-spar gypsum, the satin sheen running its full height, glowing where the light reaches it. The larger sizes stand on a low illuminated base. From Morocco.

Selenite is gypsum - hydrated calcium sulfate, Mohs 2, soft enough to mark with a fingernail. The tower is cut from satin spar, whose fine parallel fibres carry a chatoyant sheen that travels up the stone as the light moves.

Translucent, it takes light into itself and glows - which is why the larger towers stand on a low illuminated base. It is the softest, most water-sensitive material in the house: dust it with a dry cloth, never wash it, and keep it from damp. The gypsum beams of Naica are among Earth’s largest crystals.

A contemporary house of ancient materials

Maison Éthérique brings together incense, aromatic resins, botanical bundles, crystals and the objects used with them. From our house in Dubai, we explore their aromas, stories and traditions - a collection for personal rituals, familiar favourites and gifts with meaning.

For the meaning it holds

A familiar aroma can become part of a daily ritual. A stone can be kept as a symbol of protection; a botanical chosen for a practice of purification. Across the collection, scent, beauty and personal meaning offer different reasons to choose.

Awesome

This selenite looks great, you have to handle it carefully as it is heavy and solid. The light makes it look even more beautiful. I'm very happy with this purchase, will definitely buy here again.
