Smudging Discovery Set

One White Sage bundle (4-inch) - Salvia apiana, cultivated in Oaxaca, Mexico. The most familiar sage species in the trade; tightly bound dried leaves that smoulder slowly when lit at one end. Salvia sits in the Lamiaceae family alongside rosemary, thyme, and lavender.

One Blue Sage bundle (4-inch) - Salvia azurea, cultivated in Mexico. A second sage species in the same Lamiaceae family but a different species from White Sage - aromatic register and leaf character distinct. The kit's two Salvia bundles let the customer compare the genus directly.

One Yerba Santa bundle (4-inch) - Eriodictyon californicum, cultivated in Mexico. Eriodictyon sits in the Boraginaceae family - completely outside the sage genus, with a sticky-leaved character. Smoulders evenly when bound and lit.

One Cedar bundle (4-inch) - Cedrela odorata, cultivated in Mexico. The trade name "cedar" is applied commercially across the Americas to this Mexican aromatic hardwood, but Cedrela sits in the Meliaceae family (alongside neem and mahogany) rather than the true cedar genus Cedrus (Pinaceae, which doesn't grow in the Americas at all). Aromatically familiar but botanically distinct from Himalayan or Atlas cedar.

One Juniper bundle (4-inch) - Juniperus deppeana, cultivated in Mexico. Juniperus sits in the Cupressaceae family alongside cypress - the only conifer-family bundle in the set. The bundle carries the characteristic resinous-piney note of the genus.

Two palo santo sticks (4-inch) - Bursera graveolens from the Peruvian dry forests, the same naturally aged wood as the Palo Santo Collection. Bursera sits in the Burseraceae family - alongside frankincense and copal, sharing the resinous-aromatic character of that lineage.

All six items share the same burn pattern:

1. Hold the bundle or stick tip to a flame for 5–10 seconds until it catches.
2. Blow the flame out so the material smoulders.
3. Place in a heat-safe vessel or hold over a dish to catch ash.
4. Allow to cool fully before storage between sessions.

The set is built for side-by-side comparison. Burn one species per session at the start, learning the differences in aromatic register: the White Sage's clean herbaceous note, the Blue Sage's slightly sweeter sage character, the Yerba Santa's heavier resinous quality, the Cedar's deeper woody warmth, the Juniper's piney character, and the palo santo's distinctive citric-resinous register. Once familiar with each individually, the customer can blend across sessions or choose specific bundles for specific occasions.
