Tiger’s eye - small tumble-polished stones of golden-brown quartz, a band of light sliding across each as it turns, the chatoyancy that gives it its name. Sold in a set. From South Africa.

It began as crocidolite, a fibrous blue mineral; silica replaced the fibres while keeping their alignment, and light reflecting along them throws the moving band. The gold-brown is iron oxide.

The classic deposits lie in the Northern Cape of South Africa, mined since the nineteenth century. This is the untreated gold - the red on the market is usually heat-treated. Hard-wearing at Mohs 6.5–7.

A contemporary house of ancient materials

Maison Éthérique brings together incense, aromatic resins, botanical bundles, crystals and the objects used with them. From our house in Dubai, we explore their aromas, stories and traditions - a collection for personal rituals, familiar favourites and gifts with meaning.

For the meaning it holds

A familiar aroma can become part of a daily ritual. A stone can be kept as a symbol of protection; a botanical chosen for a practice of purification. Across the collection, scent, beauty and personal meaning offer different reasons to choose.
