Black Copal Intenso (Protium Grandifolium) Mexico Bliss Pack

Protium grandifolium is a Mexican copal-producing species in the wider Burseraceae family - sister-genus to the Bursera species (Bursera bipinnata for Mexican white copal, Bursera copallifera for Peruvian black copal, Bursera graveolens for palo santo). The Protium genus produces some of the darkest and most resin-heavy copals in the New World tradition, with the Mexican species favoured for the depth of its aromatic register.

The "Intenso" trade designation marks this product as the highest-intensity copal in the range - selected for the darkest tears with the highest essential-oil concentration. In Mesoamerican aromatic tradition, the darker copal grades carry a different cultural register than the lighter white grade; both are used domestically across Mexico but with different occasions and different aromatic intentions.

Character on charcoal. Black Copal Intenso opens darker than the Peruvian black copal - heavier resin notes from the first minutes, with smoky-earthy depth and a hint of dark wood underneath. As the resin warms, the scent turns toward balsam and char with a faint sweetness that emerges slowly. The deepest room-presence in the resin range; closer in character to a Maydi Mushaad frankincense than to the lighter copals.

1. Hold a charcoal tablet with tongs and light an edge.
2. Wait until the edges glow grey-white (30–45 seconds).
3. Place a small piece of Black Copal Intenso on the warm tablet.
4. The aroma is heavier than other copals - start with a smaller piece.
5. One small tear scents a mid-sized room for thirty to forty-five minutes.

Burn on a heat-proof surface in a ventilated room. The Intenso grade is dense - burns slower than the lighter copals, with more residue on the charcoal at the end of the session. Suited to longer sessions or larger rooms.
