Maydi is the frankincense the Khaleeji and Somali traditions have called the King for centuries - drier, sharper, more linear than the Boswellia of Oman. The chemistry comes from a cliff face in northern Somalia that produces nothing else like it.
Where Hojari opens citric and softens into balsam, Maydi opens with pine and clean lemon and holds that character all the way through the burn. The tears keep their structure on charcoal, charring lightly on the surface - a slower, more deliberate session than the softer Hojari grades.
The frankincense for the longer evening, the smaller gathering, the room held quiet. The grade Khaleeji households have always kept aside for the company that mattered.
